Guinness World Record holder, Simone Biles Owens is a legend in the world of gymnastics! She’s basically the Michael Jordan of the sport. Not only has she broken countless records, but she’s doing it with moves that make the rest of us dizzy just watching.

Simone Biles became the first person in history to perform a double-double dismount on the balance beam in competition, at the United States National Gymnastics Championships, in Kansas City, Missouri, USA, on 9 August 2019. Oh, just a little move where she does two backward salto tucks with a twist and lands it perfectly on the balance beam.

She also became the first woman to perform a triple-double during a floor routine the same week. The Biles II is a technique named after her, and it’s basically a move that defies the laws of physics. With 25 world championship medals under her belt – 19 of which are gold and Five gymnastics techniques named after her – Simone has proven that she’s the queen of gymnastics.

Five gymnastics moves are named after Simone Biles:

The Biles I (floor): A double layout with a half twist in the second flip
The Biles I (vault): A roundoff on the springboard, a half-twist, and a front somersault with a double twist
The Biles (balance beam): Two back handsprings that lead to a double-double dismount
The Biles II (vault): A Yurchenko-style double pike that starts with a roundoff onto a springboard and a back-handspring on the vault.
The Biles II (floor) Biles started training a triple-twisting double-tucked salto backwards in 2013. In 2019, she performed it at the U.S. Classic during podium training but not the competition.

Biles completed the skill during qualification at the 2019 World Championships, and it was therefore named after her. It was given the rating J, making it the highest rated skill across all apparatuses in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics.

Simone Biles Owens isn’t just rewriting the record books, she’s redefining the limits of human potential. With gravity-defying moves, unmatched dominance, and a legacy cemented by five skills bearing her name, she has transcended gymnastics to become a true icon. Whether soaring through the air in a triple-double or sticking a historic beam dismount, Biles doesn’t just perform, she reinvents.
