The 2019 academic year culminated in a historic milestone for Houston’s St. Thomas High School as Kellin McGowan became its first African-American valedictorian. This celebrated achievement was the first step in his remarkable evolution from a historic scholar to a high-achieving finance professional. Shattering a 119-year precedent with his stellar 4.57 GPA, McGowan’s early success was a clear indicator of his future potential.
McGowan transitioned to the University of Chicago, where this historic scholar began building the foundation for his future as a finance professional. He diligently pursued a dual Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics and Spanish Language & Literature, graduating in 2023. His collegiate years were distinguished by a profound commitment to civic engagement, evidenced by his roles as a Research and Policy Intern at CASA, where he prepared briefs for immigration campaigns, and as a Scholar with the Institute for Responsible Citizenship, an intensive leadership program in Washington, D.C.
Building upon this formidable foundation, McGowan expertly launched his professional career in the financial sector with Citi in Chicago. He first distinguished himself as a Private Banking Analyst, a role he held for nearly two years, developing a sophisticated understanding of client asset management and high-net-worth financial strategies.
His analytical prowess and dedicated performance did not go unnoticed, culminating in a significant promotion in May 2025 to the position of Investment Associate.
