Evidence has it that civilization began in Africa. Africa has birthed such brilliant innovative minds who continue to take the world by storm. Here is an incredible story of an African child prodigy Tomisin Ogunnubi.

The 17-year-old coding star beat 49,900 other tech whiz kids from 170 countries to emerge one of the 100 Global Winners in the $1bn Rise Initiative.

The tech genius, software developer and creator of ‘My Locator app’ will get lifetime benefits including a scholarship, mentorship, career development opportunities and funding.

In 2016, at only 12 years old, she got the attention of tech companies after creating ”My Locator”, a genius app that helps lost children find their way back home. My Locator which has been downloaded for more than 1000 uses Google Maps to track users as they move from one location to the next. For the app’s full functionality, users can add numbers that will receive their location in the event of an emergency.

My Locator “Has a functionality where you click on an alert button. It sends a text message and makes a phone call, that’s if you’ve enabled it in your settings, to a particular number that you’ve designated to it.” the sensational child genius said in an interview.

Tomisin learned how to code when she was 12 and wanted to create something useful. Her self-inspired goal is to foster gender and ethnic diversity in computer science and endeavours to engage on the topic through personal interactions and media opportunities.

Although Tomisin works as a Software Engineer at Cascade, UK, she is still a Computer Science student at Imperial College, London. The tech genius is passionate about technology and the diversity of its related field.

The young African Giant Tomisin has mastered skills in web and mobile development and worked with several languages and frameworks such as Javascript, Java and Python. Her genius mind has also led her to explore the fields of machine learning, design and animation.
