Tobechukwu Phillips broke a 125-year academic record, in Texas. The Nigerian-born, was determined to leave her mark in 2019. She did just that by becoming the first Black valedictorian of Alvin High School, USA. By scoring all A’s and achieving an impressive 6.9 GPA, she made Nigeria and Africa proud – a feat not many can lay claim to! It’s only fitting that after being denied access up until 1965, an African would be the one to make history more than 5 decades later!

Tobechukwu Phillips is certainly one to watch. With an impressive academic record, she has earned a scholarship to study Nursing at the University of Texas. Not content with that remarkable achievement, Tobechukwu plans to take things even further by setting up her own clinic when she graduates. There, she’ll be able to apply her skills as a pediatric nurse and help young patients get back on their feet. It’s great to see how far Tobechukwu is willing to go in order to pursue her dreams!
