Born in 1954 in Delta State, Nigeria, Dr. Otu Oviemo Ovadje is a highly acknowledged medical doctor who was responsible for the invention of the Emergency Auto Transfusion System (EAT-SET).

This affordable and simple blood transfusion system was developed while he was working at the Benin Teaching Hospital and the University Hospital in Lagos.

A technological advancement that is already in use in developed countries, the auto-transfusion method barely exists in developing countries. This is because the mechanism is costly, difficult to operate and works with electricity.

The EAT-SET is a cheaper and simpler version of the Auto-transfusion system that draws blood from damaged body organs to refuel the whole body.

This transfusion system takes blood into a special container, passes it through a thorough filtration process and then feeds the filtered blood back into the body system.

The EAT-SET works best within 24 hours of the commencement of severe bleeding. This system can adequately process 500ml of blood within 2 minutes.

The system created by African Giant Dr. Oviemo makes use of collection containers with disposable filters, making it easy to reuse. It is operated with a manual vacuum pump that pulls blood from the body vessels, thereby negating the need for electricity which is severely lacking in most African countries.

It also prevents the transmission of infection and diseases. The EAT-SET can be used to bolster blood supply to blood banks in countries where there is no availability of blood donation programs.

Though the widely acclaimed doctor produced his first prototype with a mere $120, the invention solved a major problem in Africa and was therefore commended by organizations all over the world. This feat caused Dr. Oviemo to been honoured as the Best African Scientist in 1995.

He established the EAT-SET industries shortly after. He has received financial support from notable organizations like the World Health Organization and United Nation Development Program.

Dr. Oviemo has received a lot of awards for the EAT-SET from notable groups around the world.
