Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz rematch

African Giant Anthony Joshua was defeated for the first time on his 23rd professional bouts when Andy Ruiz Jr won in June. Joshua who has fought and won 22 professional bouts and holds four of the world heavyweight titles, a feat that has never been done before shocked many when he lost for the first time to Ruiz.

Anthony Joshua’s loss to Andy Ruiz in their first meeting came as a huge shock to the boxing world. However, there have been several speculations as to why Joshua lost the fight. One theory is that Joshua was overconfident going into the fight and underestimated Ruiz. Another theory is that Joshua was simply outmatched by Ruiz on the night.

Some have argued that Joshua was already concussion before the fight and that he had a panic attack in the ring. However, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn stated that there were no health concerns going into the fight. “The biggest concern was a stye on his eye.” He told the Telegraph. Regardless of the reasons, Joshua will have a chance to redemption when they face off in a rematch in Saudi Arabia on December 7th. It will be interesting to see if Joshua can regain his title and prove that his loss to Ruiz was just a fluke.

Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz was one of the most talked-about boxing matches in recent memory. Ruiz, scored a stunning upset victory over Joshua to become the new heavyweight champion of the world. In the process, he also took home a sizable payday. According to Forbes, Joshua made $20 million for the fight, while Ruiz earned $7 million. That means that, despite his loss, Joshua still made four times as much money as Ruiz. In other words, make Anthony Joshua even richer.

Anthony Joshua’s come back fight is not just a story for Joshua, but it will also add to his boxing worth. In 2017, GQ Magazine revealed Joshua’s Billionaires dreams by stating “When I first started, the aim was to become a multimillionaire. But now there are ordinary people, grandmas and granddads, who are worth millions just because of property prices. So the new school of thought is that I need to be a billionaire.”

Being a millionaire is good, but you have to set your sights higher. If Joshua is making £10 million from his next fight, his next target has to be making ten times that. And if he gets to £100m-150m, why not go for the billion? I know self-made billionaires. It’s hard, but it’s possible”. Joshua knows that the come back creates a story for him and most importantly, will add to his boxing worth.

So Anthony Joshua’s come back is not just about the fight, but to set himself on the edge to demand higher wages such that it allows him to negotiate megabuck commercial endorsement. The start time for the fight has not been disclosed. The bookmaker have AJ as the 1-3 favourite to win the fight.
