2018 was a landmark year for African entertainers, with EW’s Entertainers of the Year featuring the leading female actresses on their cover: Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyongo, Angela Bassett and Danai Gurira as a recognition for their amazing performances in the 2018 movie Black Panther; one of the most successful Marvel movies to date.
Not only did they make history by bringing us a superhero from Africa, but they also pushed boundaries and opened doors for more representation of people of color in Hollywood. However, beyond this groundbreaking moment lies an even greater mission: that of shattering stereotypes when it comes to Black entertainers.

By recognising these talented and hardworking women with EW’s title of Entertainers of the Year 2018, EW has endorsed these women as the pioneers they are within their respective fields and shown that Black entertainers are making impacts in Hollywood in their own way. This is truly a momentous moment and serve’s as evidence that there is no ceiling on what Black artists can achieve!
